Joining Goolwa CFS
Are you interested in assisting the local community ?
Do you look good in yellow overalls ?
Why not join the local CFS ?
Being in the CFS is a great way to meet new friends and also put something back into the community.
All CFS brigades such as Goolwa are manned by volunteers. Serving the CFS is a committment to saving lives, property and the environment. All members are volunteers who care about the local community.
There are a number of different areas within the organisation with which you could assist. The positions are open to both males and females, consisting of the following 3 categories:
Cadets: Goolwa's cadet programme is currently on hold, anyone interested in joing the cadets can contact Currency Creek CFS to find out the options at present.
Firefighters: As a firefighter, you are to complete a Basic Firefight 1 course to learn basic firefighting and use of CFS equipment. Some members choose to do additional courses to futher their CFS knowledge, e.g. RCR (Road Crash Rescue), CABA (breathing apparatus), senior first aid, leadership and even chainsaw use .
Auxiliary Members: Auxiliary members are not required to do any firefighting courses and do not fight fires. You could be asked to assist with various tasks, e.g. preparing meals for fireground personnel, radio and phone work, cadet supervision. Training is provided should you want it.
If you are interested in any of these positions or have any questions about helping the Goolwa CFS out. Come into the Goolwa CFS Station on a Monday night around 6:45pm and talk to the Captain or administration.
As a member of the CFS, you will be called on to perform many tasks and duties, some will be fun, some exciting, some just plain hard work. At the end of the day, you know that you were part of a team that was able to put others in front of yourself and help people in your community, when they need help most.
